WHO WE ARE:
The Pen and Vine Society was born from a simple desire — to stay connected, keep reading and never stop learning. It was Luisa's idea. It always is.
We’ve been friends for 30 years, with our book club founding in 2018. Our book choices rotate between all of the ladies. There is no central binding theme but the books are always pertinent and thought provoking. We do true crime, social issues, historical fiction, non-fiction, dystopia and whatever we feel at the moment. Bodice ripper anyone? One thing is always top of mind in our selections and that is a focus on women, their power and their place in the world.
Our Credo: A woman always straightens another woman’s crown.
The lady who chooses the book must create a Powerpoint presentation. This could include a bio of the author, images, backround and of course book club questions for discussion. It’s really up to the person creating the presentation.
Once we all lived in the same city and our meetings were themed and rotated from house to house. This included food and drink — all part of the theme of course. We’ve even done a few “Field Trips” when the book called for it. Now we’re spread out across the country. That doesn’t stop us. Our meetings are now held on Zoom and carry the same weight and joy.
Brief thoughts on book clubs, women and wine…….
The above three are a triumvirate and mainstay of the fairer sex. We meet, we eat, we drink and we discuss. Oh and it’s good, real good!
WHY DO THIS?
Because book club provides a sounding board. If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it…..A book without a Greek chorus is only half a book.
Because who doesn’t love an afternoon of wine, great food and scintillating conversation.
